Net neutrality, the idea that the internet is fair to everyone, as a means of encouraging infrastructure expansion, has just started to be attacked. No, not moneybags Microsoft. It has emerged today that Google, originally they purveyor of network neutrality, has reared it's head and by God, the devil's face is ugly.
Google and Verizon, despite initially denying that they were in talks, have suggested faster internet. Like first and second class post, first class ensures your emails there the next day and google promises it wont lift your credit card details from it's directed advert system, while second class will get make sure your email gets there "when the internet can be bothered". More specifically, this tiering system will apply to providing "specific content" and wireless services with different priorities to itself and presumably against wired ones, dispite the fact the suggestion states that they will remain "mostly neutral" - google. What exactly "specific content" (presumably anything with the letter 'g' in the logo) is remains a bit of a mystery. Either that or it's buried yards deep in snooze-worthy white-papers that were far too much effort to read when this isn't being written on a salery. New Jewgle! Adverts everywhere, even in-front of videos on Youtube....
Yes, this faster internet also appears to come with a monopolising pricetag as well, that will have CEO's rubbing their hands with glee, we already get charged through the nose for internet that can go "up to 20mbps", when unless you can see the exchange from your living room settee, you probably achieve less than a quarter of that. Now a suggestion that wouldn't mean those that pay would get faster internet, it would probably just mean ours gets slower. One way to cut down the resources required to make the most money in the ISP business.
"In our view, the broadband carriers should not be permitted to use their market power to discriminate against competing applications or content. Just as telephone companies are not permitted to tell consumers who they can call or what they can say, broadband carriers should not be allowed to use their market power to control activity online." - Guide to Net Neutrality for Google Users -Guide to Net Neutrality for Google Users.

Google have officially crossed the threshold into evil corporation territory. They claim net neutrality is a "thorny issue", which is true, if you totally go against it. 99% of people support it, the other 1% work for google. It is a pretty clear cut concept, it's people in power who want to wipe their arses on money that are against it.
A poster on Google's Network Neutrality blog put it very well: "When the corporate champion of net neutrality turns out to be completely spineless, it's a bad omen." - Aidan Short
This is made worse by the American court's neutering of the FCC, the group set up to stop stuff like this from happening, were viscously neutered for controlling Comcast's actions which went against Network Neutrality, but lets not banter round allegations of bribery. Now the FCC is largely sitting on it's hands hoping they won't get noticed for twiddling their thumbs.
In closing, I just google searched 'Google are sellout cunts, I'm switching to Bing', that should show 'em who's boss.
