Whenever you have the incredible urge to play catch and you've got nothing but a TV, you no longer have to worry about breaking the screen--new Gorilla glass is being sucked in by Asian companies and used for TV and computer monitor screens. The glass, made by Corning Inc. (what a corny name), is supposedly some really strong crap. You can throw hard stuff at it, in this case, a baseball. And it doesn't break. So what makes it so strong?
Honestly, I have no fucking idea. I was too lazy to read the several paragraphs that had boring words like 'tempering' and 'fusion'. With words like that, you know you're in for a snooze fest. But as far as I'm concerned, how they make it doesn't matter. It's how much better it is than other glass things.
According to some tests, the Gorilla glass is three times stronger than the strongest other glass known to man, even at half the thickness. Pretty impressive stuff, eh? It's thinner, more durable, and is a bitch to scratch--sort of like a diamond, but cheaper. Well, maybe not.
The one hitch about this new product is how damn pricey it is. It's up to $60 more per television made, which is totally ridiculous. I mean, would television makers want to waste that much money on TVm production? I certainly wouldn't. That means jacking up the prices. And that means less buyers. It's bullshit.
Nonetheless, this new product, which is supposed to be available on many TV's shortly, is a Wii user's dream. No more broken screen when you forget to put on the safety strap and fourteen inch thick shock-absorbing covering, this glass is supposed to take anything.
And now for some history: the product was invented in 1962. Yeah, you and I are thinking the same thing. Why the hell wasn't this stuff the shit for windows makers near golf courses and just in general? Apparently there was no life for it in commercial use. Yeah, something's fishy there. It's probably the government. Anyways, it's just hit its big boom, sort of like baby booms. You know, when people are 'in the heat' all year long? Yeah. Sort of like that.
Anyways, I'm finishing off this report by trying to smash in my new computer monitor. So far, not a scratch. I can take anger 'venting' to a whole new level now. Boy oh boy!
